Our mission is to provide trained volunteers to advocate in court for the safety and well-being of abused and neglected children.

This year alone, more than half a million abused and neglected children will be forced to navigate the uncertain waters of the child welfare system.  Through no fault of their own, they are unable to live safely at home.  One by one, almost 60,000 Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers are standing up to ensure that these children have the best possible chance at a future. It only takes one person to be the difference.

Imagine the satisfaction of helping children in need. Imagine that you can do so by dedicating only three to four hours each week. Imagine being the difference in an abused or neglected child’s life. All of these things become a reality when you become a volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocate. A CASA volunteer is an ordinary citizen willing to become the voice for an abused or neglected child.  With specialized training, CASA volunteers go behind the doors of juvenile and family courts to ease the pain and trauma of children in crisis and to investigate and offer the judge invaluable case information;  ensuring that the system is accountable and upholding the child’s best interests.

CASA of Jefferson and Gilpin Counties is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We are not affiliated with the government and rely on private funding sources to remain operational. Anyone can be a part of CASA.  Whether you donate your time, services or financial support, you can be a powerful voice in the life of a child.

The second annual Magical Mile, held on Saturday, October 17, 2009, was a huge success.  Over 200 people attended and very generously gave their financial support to CASA Jeffco/Gilpin.  Green Gables provided a beautiful venue for the event.  To see all of our pictures of our event, click here.  We would like to thank our sponsors (see below)

The Forgotten Children Campaign

The Forgotten Children campaign kicked off May 19, 2008, with a dramatic display of 4,250 life size cutouts of children placed in the shadow of The Washington Monument, representing each child who entered the foster care system in that week alone. The campaign will continue throughout 2009, helping to raise awareness on a local level for the need for support and volunteers with CASA programs across the nation.   To read our official news release, click here.
